UTR Updates 2.13.17

Dear UTR members,

Happy Monday, we only have 5 days until Presidents week! There are a few updates that we would like to point out for this week.

Monday City Wide Rally

Today from 6:30 to 7:30 PM there will be a city wide solidarity Rally at Richmond City Hall in support of Immigrant and Muslim communities. The event is being hosted by a variety of community organizations including UTR.

Agenda: HERE
School Board Meeting
February 15th
Lovonya DeJean Middle School

This Wednesday, February 15th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM we will be coming to the WCCUSD School Board to share our opposition on continuing the contract with Richmond Charter Academy. Richmond Charter Academy has had many negative allegations when it comes to their disciplinary practices, parent involvement, and teacher expectations. If you know of anyone that has been a victim of RCA in the past please encourage them to come and speak at the Board meeting. We hope that the WCCUSD school board will vote No or at least create a mechanism of accountability to hold this school accountable with their past actions.

That night VOICES Charter School is reading their petition to open a TK-12 Charter School in WCCUSD. Their Dual Immersion Charter will open next year and will have an impact of over 500 students and over 4 million dollars by 2022. The WCCUSD School Board is currently making an investment in Dual Immersion and we believe they should absolutely vote no and ask the families to join WCCUSD efforts increase Dual Immersion in our current schools.

For the flyer for that night please download HERE.

1. We have a REP Council Meeting this Wednesday, February 15th from 4:00 to 5:30 at Pinole Middle School.

2. If you have not completed your site contact list please do so by our REP Council Meeting. Our goal is to have over 95% of our memberships contact information. This is to renew our system and so that everyone may vote online in our future UTR elections and tentative bargaining agreement.

Thank you everyone and I wish you a very relaxing and happy Presidents Week off.

In solidarity,

Demetrio Gonzalez
President, United Teachers of Richmond CTA/NEA
