UTR Updates 12.12.16

Dear UTR members,

Happy last week of school, only 5 days left! I would like to give you some updates from the School Board meeting last week ,updates for this week, and UTR election results. If you would like to watch the 3 minute summary video please click on the link below.

I would like to sincerely thank you for all the work that you do day in and day out to help students, fellow members, and families. The work you do is shaping the future of our nation. We are creating the leaders of the future that one day will create a better world for everyone. I hope that during this winter break you are able to enjoy your family, friends, and time without work. It is so incredibly important to take care of ourselves. Teachers are the most selfless human beings and we work and work no matter what because we care so deeply, but please don’t forget that we always have to take a pause and just do some self healing and self care in order to move forward with that important work. Enjoy the time off and we will see you in January.

1. Executive Board passed a resolution last Wednesday titled Resolution in Matter of Reaffirming our Values of Peace, Tolerance, and Respect. Big thanks to the Human Rights Co-chairs Alyssa Hoy and Jacob Gran for their work in supporting to write this resolution. This issue is incredibly important for the lives of our students and families in WCCUSD. As a Union we will continue to advocate and fight for the rights of teachers to have academic freedom, for students to be safe and feel safe in the places where they learn, and for families to not fear that they might never see their kids again if they drop them off at school. We will stand in solidarity with the community no matter what it takes, and we will not let hate prevail in our beautiful community.
