UTR would like to thank everyone who stood in solidarity with us at last night’s Board meeting. UTR introduced a resolution to protect our families, students, and educators from President-Elect Trump’s comments and changes in government that he plans in creating. We would like to thank the The Latina Center, First 5 Contra Costa, the Bayside Council of PTAs, West Contra Costa Parents Council, WCCAA, Adult School, Supervisor John Gioia, Building Blocks for Kids Richmond Collaborative, and the many other community organizations, unions, and leaders that stood with us last night.
The board approved a resolution last night 4 to 1 with amendments from UTR’s resolution. We would like to thank Board members Kronenberg, Cuevas, Panas, and Block for your support.
This issue is incredibly important for the lives of our students and families in WCCUSD. As a Union we will continue to advocate and fight for the rights of teachers to have academic freedom, for students to be safe and feel safe in the places where they learn, and for families to not fear that they might never see their kids again if they drop them off at school. We will stand in solidarity with the community no matter what it takes, and we will not let hate prevail in our beautiful community.
